A celebration of the life and music of the Russian composer, Dmitri Shostakovich (September 25, 1906 - August 9, 1975)
We will be playing the lovely string quartet no. 6, written in the summer of 1956 just after Shostakovich was married. Also on the program are some delightful dances for 2 violins and piano.

Fanny Hensel (neé Mendelssohn) was the older sister to Felix Mendelssohn. Like her brother, she too was a child prodigy. But because of the time she lived, in spite of her musical gift and skill at composition, her father wrote to her in 1820 "Music will perhaps become [Felix's] profession, whereas for you it can and must be but an ornament".
