ALZHEIMERS' EYE TEST

Count every " F" in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RE
SULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTI
FIC STUDY COMBINED WITH
THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

(SEE BELOW)

HOW MANY ?

..................... 3?

WRONG, THERE ARE 6 -- no joke.
READ IT AGAIN !

Really, go Back and Try to find the 6 F's before you scroll down.

The reasoning behind is further down.

The brain cannot process "OF".

Incredible or what? Go back and look again!!

Anyone who counts all 6 "F's" on the first go is a genius.
Three is normal, four is quite rare.

What about counting 5 on the first, second, third, fourth goes? Does that mean I'm a rare genius? whoo hoo! (I had a LOT of difficulty noticing that last "of")

I got four the first time through. I noticed the last "of" but completely disregarded the first 2. I feel ridiculously pleased to be "rare". skip skip skip stomp

I was ever so glad it wasn't one of those horrible depth perception pictures. I'm hopeless at those. I had to do one at the eye doctor and I could tell where the picture was supposed to be. I guessed it was a cow. It was a butterfly. How embarrassing!

Yikes. I got 7. I counted the F in SCIENTIFIC twice, once for the presumed on at the end of the line and once for the actual one at the beginning of the line.

I'm surprised they didn't mention what finding "7" means. After I found out where I'd made the mistake, it seemed like they'd deliberately set it up, splitting the word just before the F like that. I must not be the only person to have made that double-counting mistake.

I read another account of why people don't count the 'F's in the "of"s. It's because they think of them as 'V's, because of how they sound in "of".

Quick. Click on the word "red":

RED GREEN BLUE

I wonder if those who count the 'F' in "of" as an 'F' are the same group that tend to pick BLUE for "red", going by what they see rather than what they hear when they read the words aloud to themselves.

(I tend to pick BLUE by mistake.)

I did the same but I did notice that "blue" was coloured red and thought irritably, "Do they really think I'm not going to notice that the colour is not the same as the word?" whoo hoo! whoo hoo! whoo hoo! whoo hoo! whoo hoo! stomp stomp

Here's an interesting test: http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/words.html

Try the "Interactive Stroop Experiment".

When you say "read" do you mean "interpret the letters"? You're supposed to say the colours of the words, not read the words.

For RED you're supposed to say "blue".

whoohoo! whoohoo! whoohoo! whoohoo!

Yes, I said the colours of the words. Maybe I read aloud more slowly than you do. la la la

I said the colour of the words, too.
