Over the past few months I'd noticed that many things on our computer had slowed down. It was only when both sound and video stopped functioning that we got serious about doing something about it. I began with all the standard procedures. Then I got several programs that cleaned up spyware and malware. Things improved a bit. It was only today that I opened the cabinet to clean out clogged fans (power supply and the CPU fans). The computer now runs as it did when it was new!!! Please look at this simple set of instructions to save yourself a LOT of problems :http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-11319_7-6240575-1.html?tag=nav

Very good advice. I forget that most people don't ever do this. I used to work in a company where a large amount of factory dust found it's way into the offices (and computers) so I got into the habit of regularly cleaning the inside of the computers. I carried on this habit at home. In my home I clean the computers standing on the floor every 6 months (they tend to suck in most dust) and I clean those on desks every 12 months.

From now on I'm going to ask my PDA to send me a reminder every 6 months saying - "Time to clean your dusty computer cabinet"

Why not program it for every 4 months to say "time to clean your computer cabinet before it gets dusty"?

(Thanks for the reminder to clean my computer cabinet!)
