Peter Hedges wrote the book "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" which in turn was turned into a wonderful movie by Lasse Hallstrom (screenplay by Peter Hedges).
"An Ocean In Iowa" is his second novel and is also a real corker. It centres on the Ocean family, with Scotty (7) as the main protagonist. He has a life a bit like Hallstrom's Ingemar in "My Life As A Dog". It is sad any very funny at the same time. Rush to your local library now!
